GTH wahoo and stuff 6/11

I didn’t do my job as well this trip and so I don’t have many pictures to share but at least we all had a good time. The Anglers Dream is having scheduled motor service and so I went with Captain Greg on Miss Emily. We left early for the GTH and had an immediate hookup an a ~40 hoo that dove to the depths like a nice tuna and never made a run. Very odd winching a wahoo straight up. After that it was ON! Non stop action, 12 cudas in 150’ :frowning: We had enough of that so we ran out deeper and it was totally dead. Water was all the same temp everywhere which is what we expected based on SST. Two of the people I brought had never caught an offshore fish so they were super stoked by all the action so the day was going well.
We headed back in and picked up a slinger in 150’ and that was it. Liz did manage her first dolphin and was super excited to learn how to clean it and cook it - I’ll circle back to this in a bit.
We stopped for some bottom fishing on the way back in and managed a few vermillion that were not that big and a bunch of amerjack on the jigs which was great fun for the newbies on spinning gear. I don’t mind fighting them either because you have to work you way through plenty if you want grouper and cobia sometimes. After that we dropped some divers but there wasn’t much going on where we were so we picked up and ran back in for an early day.
At the dock we were all having a good time drinking and unloading the boat and taking pictures and of course we had to get one with Liz and her prized fish. Unfortunately I think all the amberjack wore her out a bit.

Her Fish:

Suddenly, tragedy! We tried to find it and Ed even jumped in but it was nothing down there but fish guts and razor blades. Props for trying to help her out Ed.

Thank you to Captain Ed Harrelson for the open ocean rescue. After coming up with no boat near by; captain Ed transferred us back to the mother ship. With the blown O ring on the hydraulics we could not steer the boat. Word of wisdom; if you lose your steering use a ratchet strap to fix the motors in the straight position and use trim tabs to steer the boat. We came in 25 to 30mph without steering. Thanks to dive buddy Doc Bill for figuring out the strap.
Jordan the date was 6/11 not 5/11. it was a long day

This made me smile again.

Disappearing dolphin trick? I’ve seen it before, but usually on the boat… Never get’s old though!!!

Miss Emily, I am glad we were in the right place at the right time to help you out . Glad you made it home without seatow.

Yep, can’t believe I lost my first mahi! It was an adventure tho and I’ll catch another one. Everyone feel free to chuckle. I certainly did! Hope the guys I flashed (accidently) while trying to find it enjoyed the show!

The guys that got flashed should have donated some good already cleaned fish! Only respect you know.
