Just returned from 3 days fly fishing for sailfish at Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala. I was on a hosted trip organized by Capt. Brian Horsley. Our 6 man group fished aboard The Rum Line and Intensity. The fishing was off the charts…in 3 days between both boats 372 raised, 186 bites and 99 releases! One of the Captains said this season has been the best in 10 years.
Fishing there is a lot of fun. Glad you got to fish with Chris and he is as good of a photographer as he is a captain. I fished 4 days last time and released 15, 39,40 and 12. Fantastic fishing.
From someone who has personally attempted to capture the same quality images and action as you have posted above, I’d like to say job well done on those pictures. You just can’t get that image without putting in a ton of effort and time.
Congrats on some incredible fishing. Hook up ratio OTF is pretty outstanding. I would have been excited about half of that!
Thanks 23! I’ll have to give credit on my photography success to the host of the trip, Capt Brian Horsley. He helped me set up my camera. Guatemala is an excellent place for bluewater photography as conditions are usually calm and you have 20-30 shots a day at photographing billfish at insanely close range. I had as much fun taking the photos as catching the fish. This was my second year on that trip and I will be going next year as well! It is not a cheap trip but the dollar cost average per fish makes it a great deal.

That’s not expensive IMO for such a trip. Actually sounds like a good deal. Again though after 12/15 of those things I’m worn out and ready for the Hill. You must have a hardcore crew.
Just did a trip to casa vieja late march we hit it right. We released 173 in 3 consecutive days on two boats the last day was the best we released 85 between our two boats (42 and 43). Never got old . great place run by good people. looking forward to a return trip.
I wish I could do that, and also have someone photograph my doing it that well. I’d seriously cover my office in giant canvas prints of those photos. They’re incredible.
Thank you Edistodaniel. I was fortunate to be with some incredible anglers and photographers along with essentially non-stop action from the fish. Truly a bucket list trip!
