guide recommendations

Looking for a good light tackle/fly guide for the stono (JI/Johns Island), Folly, and kiawah rivers. Any suggestions from anyone? Desperately wanting to learn more about these areas, and become more successful in fishing them. Thanks for the help

captain geoff bennet, charleston charter fishing. his number is 843-324-3332. seriously he;s a great guy, he took me fishing for free for my school job shadow day in february. if you call him, i hope you do, tell him hunter hames recommended him.

There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow.

If you do not charter salt fisher on this site you will miss out. That is his back door and a very nice guy. Runs a sweet boat as well…shearwater.

And this comes from a guy whose son charters but in a different area.

big dog

Thanks for the good reference… but I am not a fly fisher…

John Ward with Affinity Charters, John Irwin - Fly Right Charters would be who I would use for fly fishing and Chris Chavis - Finstalker are all top notch fly guides.

AFFINITY!

I’ve heard John Ward is very good. He does have other captains that also run trips for him. If it’s John Ward you want make that clear.

I see Irwin in that area a lot too.

Affinity, Finstalker, and Flyright will provide nothing less than the best.

Don’t know when you plan to go but a second for Saltfisher -he knows where the fish are now. Last weekend my out of town guests had a blast with him. He may not do fly but you also mentioned light tackle. I was surprised at how light he sets up for certain species.

thanks!

if you want just fly fishing, a buddy of mine that works at the lowcountry fly shop has a business, capt michael bruner fins and flies charters. but i really do recommend capt geoff bennet for folly or stono, thats his home base and he does light tackle and fly. he runs a 16ft hewes bayfisher so your boat will most likely be able to get up in his spots. ive seen a fishwhistle boat moored outside folly ramp so i guess thats yours.

Yak Im in a 16’ Mckee Cape Fear (the lead sled)… I guess fish whistle is not that unique of a handle.

Captain Mike Able from Haddrell’s Point knows these waters well

196 KEY WEST BAY REEF
150 YAMMIE

I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Mike mainly fish the ICW around MT P, SI, IOP + Wando

I believe the Fish Whistle boat you’re referring to is a charter boat run by Capt. Lawton Jackson.

All of the above mentioned captains know their stuff as well as Capt. Scotty Davis. He’s one of the best flyfishermen in Charleston and a nice, funny guy to boot.

And, at least a year or so ago one of his captains is named John. So, you have to ask for John Ward. My dad and I hired him a year or so ago and thought we were getting John Ward. We got the other John.
