A friend of mine wants to hire a guide to take us fishing on Lake Murray for stripers (plus our boys). He has found a guide that goes by Captain Mike and I just wanted to ask if any of you knew of him or have used him in the past. I have a boat and usually fish around the jetties and harbor in Charleston, but I’ve never fished for stripers before and would like to see how it’s done and get a feel for Lake Murray before I haul the whole family up there.

Daytripper, haven’t heard of a Capt. Mike, but Capt. Randy with Blue Heron Guide service is one of the best up here… I fish for stripers on Murray quite often, but lately other things have kept me off the water… if you can’t get up with those guys, give me a yell and maybe I can get away for a day… I’ve got bookings for the next two Fridays in Chasn Harbor, but other than that ??? The guy that runs blue herron brings in a ton of fish, his dock is just across the cove from my aunts house in hawley creek, he fishes out of a 25 C hawk. I am not really familiar with too many of the guide services toward the dam, but there are several that are on the water week in and week out.
I’ve fished with Captain Mike, man knows his stuff, very colorful person. If he still has his Green Sea Pro, that’s a nice boat. I’ve also heard very good things about Capt. Randy, Blue Heron G.S.
We charterd Captain Mike friday and Saturday. He is a good captain. Fishing was good Friday, caught 13 fish, kept 9 with 3 almost 10 lbs. Sat was slow, caught 3 striper and a catfish. First time fishing on Lake Murray, had a great time, but it was very cold on Friday morning.
