I drove to Pensacola and Fished the Gulf Coast Kayak Tournament this weekend. While not as big as the JAX event there were still about 130 other kayak anglers. Was a good weekend and except for the wind the weather was great.
I was fishing with one of the guys from Hobie and we both missed the slam today due to the trout. Of all the fish not to catch could not believe it was the trout. Although my flounder and red would not have put me in the running for a prize I still would have liked to have gotten a slam. We found a hole and kept catching Reds first thing in the morning, but could not catch anything with much size to it. If I remember there were only three slams caught which was a bit of a surprise considering how many people fished. The wind was pretty strong and made the fishing a bit tough. We fishing along the ICW so a combination of Wind and some really big boats made for a difficult paddle at times.
We fished Friday and had a very productive day. I caught several trout with the largest just a tad over 25. Kept wondering what happened to all the trout we caught on Friday. The tournament was a kill tournament, but other than that it was a good tournament and would fish it again.
