Gulp choices

I prefer the Gulp baits due to their (supposed) biodegradability. The only ones I’ve tried are the 5" jerk shad in “sapphire shine” and “pearl”. Do the colors and shapes matter much? Do the “swimming mullet”, “crazy legs”, “squid”, etc work just well?

There’s a place online that has buckets of them on sale but limited choices and I thought I might try a bucket.

Is the formula for saltwater baits the same as for freshwater baits?

Thanks!

We like the swimming mullet in the smoke metalflake color and the natural shrimp…have had good luck with both. We use the jerk shads too, but the two I listed above do better for us. We have been using them for about 6 years now.

Thanks Louie. The person who introduced me to Gulp via Jerk Shad had me working them very slowly bumping the bottom around oyster beds. Is that how you like to work the swimming mullet?

what site has them on sale?

If that link works it should take you to the Berkley stuff that’s on sale. There’s other brand stuff too but I haven’t looked too hard at it. There was a free shipping code for >$30 orders: “FSXD” but I think that’s expired now.

Generally speaking, you should work the swimming mullet and the shrimp very slowly. When you think you are going slow enough…slow down a little more, especially in the winter. If you find some feeding trout, the jerk shads work a little better when worked quickly so they don’t get a good luck at it and this will trigger reaction strikes mostly. Even the jerk shads work best when worked slowly unless you run into some very active fish.

I’ve tried several Gulp shapes, most of them I think. The two shapes that I’ve had the most success with are the shrimp and the swimming mullet, in pearl white or new penny. Last trip out (was down in Cedar Key, FL), I tailhooked the Gulp shrimp under a popping cork and the trout were tearing them up.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
