Gulp Mantiss Shrimp

Although Gulp has worked really well for me in the Jerk Shad fashion, I was never wild about the shrimp. I target mostly trout (sight feeder) and the shrimp looks like a turd, nothing like a shrimp. So, I tried the new Mantiss Shrimp the other day and although it doesn’t look like a shrimp either, it looks like something that might be alive. Well, only one of the curl tails was curling and other than that had the same action as the original shrimp. I sure wish they made the Gulp in the DOA copy like everyone else. Sorry Mr. Nichols, but you nailed it with the size shape and SHRIMP LIKE POSTURE of your bait. I’d bycatch a lot more reds if they did. By the way, do the curl tails of the swimming mullet actually curl like they are supposed to; at least most of the pack? I’d hate to invest in them to have another lame up bait.
Good Luck!

in my experience - no.

I do like the scented Z-man baits. they have good action and scent.

I am a big fan of the gulp jerk shad also. I do agree that the shrimp looks like a turd. If I try and replicate shrimp, I go DOA all the way.

Monday, I fished a two-hook rig under a popping cork for a couple of hours. Top hook was live shrimp, bottom hook was the New Penny Gulp shrimp. Didn’t have a lot of bait shrimp and the Pinfish were active, so I was just trying to conserve the live bait we had. That’s the only reason I used the Gulp. Anyway, I got two trout on the live shrimp and two on the Gulp. First time I’ve used the Gulp, so I was pleased, but with trout hitting just about everything right now, it’s hardly proof that it’s effective. My two cents.
