Anyone have an opinion on what is a good brand/make of hard gun case? I’m looking to buy a gun case that will stand up to airline baggage handlers and is lockable! Do they make one that that has the TSA locks on it? It will need to carry a scope mounted 700 Remington and cleaning kit and at least 1 box on shells.
Get a Pelican Case and take your gun to a UPS Hub and have them ship it to the destination, lot less hassle and problems that way. No way I would let TSA or anyone associated with the Federal Goobermint be responsible for my gun in transport.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Thanks Salty! I was just thinking about if you take it with you! Never have flown with one except bringing them home while in the military! That was before TSA was around. Lot easier then.
My neighbor’s son just went to Arizona for a long range shooting school and that is what the school advised him of doing. They told him they had people who’s guns were checked with the Airline and went through the TSA BS and didn’t arrive until after the course was done with cases that looked like they were run over by an M1 Abrahms. Everyone who sent them UPS had them when they arrived and in the condition they were shipped in.

Salty; I got the word on the Pelican from another friend also. He hunts all over the world and had one run over on the ramp by a baggage cart tug with no damage! He said it still had tire tracks on it but the guns were OK. That’s a good recommendation. Where did you buy yours?
Can’t remember, I think it was Dicks or one of those big box stores. They had them on clearance but it was a long time ago.

Bought several from OpticsPlanet.com. Great pricing and fast delivery, and you get exactly the model you want. Does your weapon break down, like a shotgun or AR? If so, you can use a smaller, less obvious case. Also never had issues with airline transport, but that’s a choice you will have to make. For me, I don’t pay extra for the case, and have never had one messed with (I fly Delta). Recommend you tape down the latches after checking in with TSA.
You don’t need and should not use TSA locks. Go to the TSA sight and look at their information, or call your airline. Only you should have access to your lock (i.e. only you have the key). I know some airlines are now allowing TSA locks, but I don’t recommend it.
I took a .300 mag Remington from here to Baltimore on Southwest. No extra fees and it rode in the belly of our flight. Picked it up at baggage claim at BWI. Walked right out with it. I thought it would be difficult, but it wasn’t. Also my firearms insurance covers all my stuff lost, damaged, stolen. No deductible.
Thanks guys! Going on a Texas hog hunt. Man says he has 2,000 acres and 4,000 hogs!
