Gunsmith recommendations

I have inherited a couple of long guns from my grandfather that have some rust and need refinishing. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who does this?

Carolina Rod and Gun was great, but it has sadly closed down.

I’m sure PSA has a gunsmith, but I’ve never taken anything there.

Sportsman Warehouse in North Charleston.

There is a Limehouse gunshop on John’s Island that I think I remember having gunsmith services, but I haven’t been in there in a bunch of years.

Are these shooters that you just want to clean up, or collectables? If the latter, Id get advice on devaluation before doing anything to them.

A Savage model 99 .30-30 lever and Savage 311B double barrel 12ga. I am more concerned with protecting them to pass on to another generation than I am about collectability

A gunsmith can also tell you if they are in operable condition too… within reason. With any old firearm with an unsure background, there’s certainly a risk of malfunction.

Ive got an old pistol from the 30s that I’ve shot once. Realizing that the bullet was tumbling out of the barrel instead of shooting straight, something is wrong there. It’s not worth fixing to me, but also not worth shooting and chancing someone getting injured.

You can also reach out to Leandenwahboy here. He knows stuff and he’s close by.

I’m not a gunsmith, but I can clean them for you.

Same question-different location (Lexington)

My advice. I have a few like this. Clean/ oil them down. Wrap with an oily towel and leave them alone.
