6 brave souls left ripley light 3:10am sharp, headed out at 25 knots to the top secret place called 226,drop some high speed lines at 5:45 am just to cover some ground, marked a few new bottom spots, decided it was time to break out the b-hoo at 650 am,at 7:15 the meat stick has its first victum of the day,a nice wahoooooooooooooo 20-25lbs or so,continue headed out to the really deep 1400 ft,lots of flyers between 300-800 ft,lots of birds just being lazy, headed toward the 380 hole about the time we hit 1000 ft bam,mr stud shows up but he is no match for the meat stick killin machine, after a small fight we double gaff another nice hoo, tried to measure him at the dock but he broke our 50lb scale,so we will say 50lbs,very fat beast…2-3 other knock downs and 1 nice dusky shark was caught, very nice day until we hit 140 ft then it was nasty ride in,doable but nasty.
heard a call on the way in,went over to try to render assistance to a couple of boats about 8 miles from the rocks, everyone got into the rocks fine…
great day to fish and glad we went deep…so far we have a wahoo in jan and now 2 for feb, hope this is a sign of things to come…
pics will be coming for all to argue about how big or small the hoo were…
saw no tuna/bill fish or anything like that…

Sounds like a good trip. We caught 3 nice wahoo–biggest was 47 pounds–a couple of years ago in February. They are here year year-around. You banked some good karma helping another boater out…good form, captain.

Looking forward to the pictures. I actually had my camera on board and never knew it.
Nice report! I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that keeps everything in my boat on deck while fishing. How were you rigging the B Hoos? Any color work better?

i would rather not have that cluster but it just seems to happen…
black/purple was the color of choice,we use monel…both were caught on the planer which we run on a bridal setup with a short bent butt with a 50 SDS avet mounted on it,spooled with 130lb braid…AKA 'meat stik"

Are you sure that was a dusky? And who are those puzwahs stinking up my bean bag?

I fish alot more than you.
Freshwater is for drinking.
we were more concerned about the 200.00 blk bart than identifying the shark, but yes we feel it was a dusky…
