Left the dock at 530 with the caveman teddy bear rebecca and teddy’s sister ashley Fished in the 400’s on sunday and got a firm beating. Started in 130’ and never made it further than 350’. Caught a bonita,a king, and several dolphin, kept the king a 5 gaffers and missed probably as many due to rubber hooks also finally got cutoff with the yozuri 130 pink leader by a toothy critter. Weather man nailed it once again. Water was 78-80 all day, squitches were the staple of these few fish
Oh well, at least you got out there. Saturday fishing wasn’t much better although the seas were much nicer. How was Rebecca’s arm this week? Let us know next time you guys plan on getting out there. Also, I hope you got your VHF checked out!!!
Preston,
we tried to call you half way back to rocks but nothing…
hope your crew didn’t get wet as we did.A very sh#tty ride home.
Talk about about some salty crust and a long ride home.
Thanks for the new rig you gave us at the dock.It put a nice gaffer in the box before the wahoo from hell took it away.
We had to turn and chase him once to get some line back only to have him take twice as much back.I think I’ll have three or four of those on the boat before I go again.
Hey jesse That would have beeen one hell of a hoo had some one crimped it right. But I guess that why they call it fishing and not catching. Thanks for letting me ride with you had a great time.
Preston,
I apologize for any comments by a guest who may or may not
know more than anyone else on the ocean.
I appreciate your effort to share your tips and rigs with those of us
who still have not learned it all.
Experience is easy to come by,just go fishing alot but class takes years and is still not guarranteed.
jesse
jesse, this is the caveman here, sorry about that crimp, but even Roger Clemens gives up a homerun every once in a while. i rigged that up on the way out on friday morning in some pretty sloppy seas. i fished it friday and saturday and caught a few dolphin with it so i figured it was doing alright. its not my fault you hook up with too big of a fish:wink:
honestly, i think i have a bad batch of crimps, the paint/finish just flakes off and they seem to feel diffrent. i am double checking every one i’ve done for strength, i hate to say it, but i’m glad it happend to yall and not us:smiley:
and RUNNOFT - i’m fishing several boats this year and average a “few” trips each week. i’d be more than happy to try out any lures. get them to rebecca or i can meet you somewhere, my # is 437-8818.
oh, and by the way, i’m actually having to do real work (construction stuff) while waiting for folks to call me to work their boat.
c’mon guys, who needs a pit monkey who works for a couple mahi steaks???
thanks to TRIM IT UP for hiring me for last friday and saturday, that Mako is a sweet boat to work on, nice ride. Looking forward to saturday when we have the A-team with me and Dave-o slinging baits out the back.
til then, its back to double checking crimps, sharpening hooks, and jerking to the melton tackle catologue that just came in the mail.
sounds good, just leave a message, i need a new battery on my cell and it only works when its plugged into my charger. i’m heading out on saturday and sunday for sure. next monday tuesday and wednesday are a strong possibility. and the guys i go out with aren’t short on cash if you know what i mean. a few samples could turn them on.
but, i will be completely honest with you on how i think they run. you can ask rebecca if i put up with any b.s. on the back of a boat:wink:
and to answer a previous question, NO, we don’t use stingers on the half-mine. two reasons - one - we want to give the fish at least a slight chance of surviving if they come within a quarter mile of the 23KWest. and two - i hate a flapping treble on the deck of a boat and since i do most of the wiring/leadering and gaffing, my hands are always around those things. i’ve only had two hooks go through my hands so far and lucky for me, they were all J’s, i’ll leave the treble hooks for the guys in the Ranger Bass Boats to stick in their blue jeans:smiley:
Sorry, by “stinger” I did not mean treble hooks, just a second hook buried a little lower in the bait. The bait doesn’t swim as good, but it sometimes helps when you got a case of the rubber hooks.
Are ya’ll planning on going back to the alley saturday?
I’m going with a friend and his triton.
I went to haddrells today and bought some lehis and the
tuna hooks. When ya’ll put a weight on that rig ,the weight goes on the bottom of the loop-correct?Also ,do you use a 7/0 or 6/0 tuna hook.
Oh yea ,don’t worry about the crimp.Just keep showing me
the new shat.I appreciate all the help.
cape we usually use mustad 8/0 or owner jobu 8/0…they seem to work very well… you can use 7/0 also…usually dont go smaller than 7 unless you have some small ballys and you are fishing for black fin but even then we are using 7/0
Jesse- correct on the chin weight, and the rig i gave you had a 5/0 7731 mustdad on it. we will make a go at it on saturday and affirmitave on the alley! caveman ill be back in town tonight try and come by around 530or6
Preston,
