I’m in the market for a handheld gps. The garmin 78sc looks nice. $400 at thegpsstore.com. Waterproof, floats. Question though, it’s preloaded with the Bluechart G2 Coastal chart. Is that sufficient for basic inshore navigating or do I need to get something additional? Also, I’d be happy to hear other model/brand recommendations.
Thks.

I think you will be happy with most any Garmin product. The Bluechart is all that you will need for nav functions. When I got my first boat here I had a Garmin GPS12 handheld with the external antenna. It was old school with no chart plotting, was black and white, but it had a trackline so I could find my way back in Bulls Bay after the tide came in. Reliable as the sunrise.
