Got a few hall passed from the wives. Put together a top notch crew of anglers and got out on ledge for a blast of dolphin fishing.
Slow ride out at 25 knts with an annoying SSW 2 foot chop. But all laid down by the ledge and we were on it. Problems with outriggers had us ducktaping them to stay out. Anyone that know where to get a taco outrigger rebuild kit or someone that does that please let me know. These jokers are shot.
We saw a free jumping sail at the ledge and dropped some black barts and some nakeds back to no avail. Then picked up and headed deeper.
Found a great weed line in 800 feet half way between 226 and 380 and started filled the box soon after. All good 15 to 20 pound fish and them a whopper hit. It was biggest dolphin we have boated. We were all so stoked.
We put a few skip jacks in the box then we picked up and ran north to 380 hole to join some other friends that had done well. We need to work on our secret code on the radio because it never worked ;j.
Slick ocean at 380 yielded zero fish on a decent weed line. So we started slow trolling back in. Around 2:00 in the middle of nowhere two reels blow up and the center rigger collapses. We’d been demasted!!
We quickly pull in one line with a just the head of a skip jack remaining and think the other remaining line must be a wahoo or shark. He almost spooled a 50 wide then charged the boat. We managed to gather in all the line and come tight but then he broke off. Line was chewed through so my thought was that is was a shark.
We pulled back to outcrop and snagged a few cudas while looking for wahoo.
Great Fathers Day. I just look forward to the day when I can take my kids too.
