Merry Christmas to all and to all a good bite! The gulls have been wide open since 7:30 in the elbow area. I might be out there this afternoon if the wind isn’t too strong. Waiting for the school chasers to calm down.
I thought about test running the toon boat around noon, but sweetheart said she wanted me to spend the whole day with her. I had shown the diving gulls to her earlier this morning and explained that the fish were probably jumping in boats. Around 1:30 she told me she wouldn’t mind if I fished for a couple of hours. I started out around 2:00. The motor ran fine. Stopped, started, idled and ran good wide open.
I didn’t take the depthfinder with me. Just tried the spoons out in a little deeper water off of the spot we fished Saturday, intending to work my way shallower. Had a nice perch in four jerks and never needed to move after that. Final count was one short striper, 19 perch and 5 nice catfish. The cats averaged almost 7 lbs. apiece. The largest was over 10 lbs. and put up one heck of a fight, wrapping up in the marker. All fish were between 37’ and 40’ today (best guess). Thankfully, the gulls had quit diving so the bird chasers never came running in on me. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
