Went out mid afternoon to try some deep holing before setting poles for the evening shrimping. The wind was strong and coming out of the NE. We started in 25 to 35 foot depth and did not catch the first shrimp. Moved in to the 16 to 25 foot range and again nothing. Decided to move deeper and found them at the 38-42 foot depth. They were not as thick as I would have liked but we managed to get about 1/8 cooler.
It was getting late(6:30) so we moved to a mud flat and set our poles in 4 1/2 of water on the incoming tide. Baited right before dark. I had some Bait Binder left over from last year that yielded enough bait for 5 poles. So I had 5 poles with BB and 5 poles baited with fishmeal and clay. The shrimp were on the bait exactly 12 minutes after my two solar lights I use on my two end poles came on. The shrimp were mixed with most being small to medium. We called it quits with shrimp still on the poles with 3/4 cooler. I saw no difference between the FM/C poles and the BB poles. Note: The average size of the shrimp caught deep holing were MUCH larger than the shrimp we caught over bait.
Great report Thanks!! Was going to go tonight, but w/ the 15 knt NE wind and having to get house ready for the storm, didn’t make it. Will try after the storm, Hope all the shrimp are not pushed out by the rain.
