Harbor 7/25

Put in yesterday evening at High tide around 5:30 with a buddy of mine who has never caught a big red. We were lucky enough to catch about a dozen shrimp and a dozen mullet in the net. Headed out into the Harbor and the wind wasn’t as bad as I expected, so we tried the shrimp on popping corks around Ft. Sumter. We caught 1 puppy drum and multiple crabs.

After about 1/2 hour, we decided to move to some docks and switch to mullet on carolina rig. Within about 20min, I put a 30" red in the boat. 5min later my friend’s drag was screaming and I thought it was going pull the rod outa his hand. After a nice fight, he put the 32" red in the boat. After measuring and pictures, I noticed a tag on the fish. However, the tag was covered in grit and slime that I couldn’t scrape off. I was getting worried about the fish’s condition, so we revived the fish and released it without getting the #. Has anyone had this problem?

Caught 1 more 31" red before heading in. It was a great evening and happy that the weather held.

Yes, i have caught a couple that the tag was embedded too deep and you couldnt get the number. I guess the fish were tagged when they were small and they grew around the tag. Both fish like this were large reds.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>The thumb nail is usually good at scraping the crap off the tags. I know some guys cut those nails back real far though. Your instinct to get the fish back in the water was correct, in my opinion.

I see more and more fish that look like someone has already scraped the tag down before me so, that makes me happy. Good to see fish being released multiple times.

For doing that i will buy you a tee shirt anytime.

Yeah, I would have also liked to get the info of the fish for my friend, being that he is kinda new to saltwater fishin…but that’s the way it goes and we were excited to put some fish in the boat

Great job and good call for the fish. Would have been neat to see where the fish had been via DNR. good of you to put your buddy on some fish. I’m sure there are more in his future!
