This might be a crazy question but I will ask it anyway. Since I live on JI and would hate to make plans to fish the Grillage or Dynomite hole and take the time to launch the boat only to find that water is pretty rough and unfishable, is there a web site that gives the harbor forcast? Or is there a rule of thumb that people use to judge the water (like NE wind = Never Ever)?
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
10knts or less and the weather is pretty good for fishing around the jetties/grillage. 15knts and higher, there is a decent chop on the water. Most of the time if you are trying to fish the jetties or surrounding area, you just have to deal with the little bit of unprotected water between the fort and the start of the jetties. Get inside that protected area in between the jetties and you can generally find a calm enough area to fish.
Sailed for CofC team in college and that’s all we used. Look at which way the tide is moving, and if wind is opposite the sea state will be rough if the wind is over 15kts. summer south winds are starting to give way to lighter fall winds from the north and will until late november. Hope this helps
