Went out on my first trip of the season last night, the wind really sat down when the sun went down. 8PM the tide became slack and we baited our poles. We made 4 passes with only 2 shrimp. Looks like I’ll have to make the drive to BB and GT
Dang, I am hating the skrimp reports right now.
Me too. That’s why I choose to wait until they get good and bide my time fishing with this awesome weather. I found I was wasting too much time working to catch shrimp on some of the prettiest fishing days of the year. Once I get some solid harbor reports, I’ll give it a go.
you are fishing at night?
I was mostly referring to daytime shrimping in the bay, but when I fish I go early and stay out for a considerable period of time. I’m getting too old/lazy to want to go grind it out at night after a full day of sun, adult beverages, and fishing.
I was out there with ya last night. Nada. Got a mess of menhaden though. Oh well, time on the water…

were you guys out in crab bank?
Crab bank last night. Got about 2qts headed. Pulled pole
s at 10 very poor start
fish today work tomorrow
Yeah CB,
we pulled our poles at 9, if i make 2 runs without shrimp then im outta there.
I have had the same luck (no shrimp)in the harbor. I have tried all around crab bank, out in the deeper harbor spots, and up the mouth of the Cooper. My last trip out was the night before last. Two shrimp total. One of them was about the size that you find in shrimp flavored Ramen Noodles. The other one wasn’t even caught on bait; I was messing around with the net away from the poles.

Wonder if there’s a reason why crab bank is doing so poorly. Could it be Because the erosion from Suv’s island?.. Water/ air temp? Could it be those commercial shrimper net em all already???
i remember one year it rained a lot and crab bankers banked on big uns and made the post and courier. showed the size of shrimp and everything
I don’t know but I’m guessing the shrimp might be a little later this year since last winter was so warm and this summer has been fairly warm too. I haven’t been to the harbor yet but I’ve been to the bay twice, during the day, and haven’t done well at all. 1st time north 2nd time south.

I was at Crab Bank last night (9/25). Baited up right at dark and ran the poles 4 times. NO SHRIMP. Not one single shrimp. We had the whole place to ourselves. Pulled up and left about 10:00. Did get a show, though. A big boat came screaming around the inside of the bank towards Shem Creek and turned towards the harbor. Only problem was they cut the corner too close. I heard the boat come to a screeching (instant) halt. I am sure that they were there for most of the night as the tide was still falling. Felt sorry for them but not much that I could do to help them. Can’t fix stupid but maybe they learned something.

Will they extend the shrimping season because of the poor harvest?
No, they will determine due to the poor harvest that they are endangered and will close the season for the next three years. lol sorry just venting. ![]()
