Harbor troll

Usually fish the area flats, creeks , and jetties, Thinking about
slow trolling live bait, pogies/whiting/pins/croaks in main harbor area from jetties up to around the Castle and middle ground…
Any comments on possible catch doing this???

Kings, Cobia

I’ve heard of jacks being caught around the castle.

Jacks used to be all over the harbor years ago…haven’t seen much activity (compared to what it used to be) for a long time. I’m sure a few are around, though.

Should be some Spanish and blues around any harbor mouth now, along with kings.

Trout and small Spanish hang around the mount pleasant and bridge end and side of Pinckney but there is a under water structure/ dock debris on the other side.

Some serious schooling going on in the mouth (east end) of jetties late in day. I figured it Spanish but heard not. Should be fun regardless…watch for birds.

I agree with possible Kings or Cobia and I remember hearing of people catching Jack Creval around Castle Pinckney also but haven’t heard of any lately. I never really fished around Castle myself.

Any favorite baits, techniques? Looking to learn what I can about the area. New boat owner and hoping to learn all I can . Will be out to the jetties.

New boat owner, new to boating or both? Just be careful around the jetties. If you're on the inside, watch the wakes of the cargo and other big boats coming and going. If anchoring to fish, make sure you're good and stuck before killing the engines.

I would strongly suggest you take someone with experience with the jetties the first few times you go, it can turn bad quick if you don’t know what you are doing.

One Simple Thanks!!

What Pitviper said X10 , Not really fishing tricks needed at jetties
Knowing anchor needs , reading current movement ,knowledge of where
you wind up when tide changes, aware of affects of shipping traffic ,
Safety first and at jetties it’s the most important…[:0]Best advice
is to leave motor running just in cast something unexpected comes along which happens quite frequently !!

Any other decent places to fish even outside the jetties

Probably would be more productive to troll those live baits outside the jetties. Edge of the shipping channel or follow a tide line.

No salt, no fun.

Fished yesterday at the jetties. We caught a lot of small Reds. My first drop with a mud minnow produced a bull red that fought hard and lost at the boat. It was a good day!

Find the menhaden in the harbor and cast net a few. Then just troll outside of the jetties and along south towards folly beach in 10 to 15 feet of water along the beach. Look for birds too. A few people have been catching kings doing this.
