Outboard rookie question- are there any concerns around the upcoming temps and the affects on a Yamaha 4 stroke? I know my freshwater inboard/outboards required winterizing to prevent damage. I do plan to use through winter months as much as possible and the boat is currently on its trailer under the house, trimmed down. Thanks!
As long as you have the water drained out of it, your good to go! I would keep the batteries on trickle charge!
Do you have any other water in the boat? I lost a fresh water pump in the freeze of 2014. I did empty the fresh water tank but the pump was left with water in it. Froze and busted and was a PITA to change. I now pump all the water out that the pump can pump. After that I add 1 3/4 liter real cheap vodka to the empty tank and start the pump until I smell the vodka. Picked up a big bottle of rot gut yesterday and plan to treat the pump today.

Wouldn’t hurt to change the foot oil if it hasn’t been done in a while. Just in case there is some water that got in there.
Thanks!
make sure to trim the motor down so the lower unit exhaust are doesn’t trap rain water, other that, change the gear lube to make sure its not contaminated with water.
