Hardcore Xpress Back in Action

Several of you may have noticed that we were fishing out of Gary’s boat Saturday. Mine was out of commission. On Friday afternoon, I backed in at Acapulco to look and practice since I had not been on the water in 2 weeks and had to only work a half day. I never made it off the trailer and killed the battery trying to start the Yammy. The battery came all the back after charging for 2 days; however, the motor still would spin the flywheel but not hit. I soon realized it was a fuel problem.

The primer bulb was not staying firm; so I replaced it. Still nothing. I check the fuel/water separator, and sure enough it was in horrible shape-- corroded and nearly rusted out on the bottom from over splash from the salt water in the baitwell. That’s probably where I got the gas smell that made me think I flooded the motor. Well, I replaced the entire kit, and she cranked and ran better than ever yesterday.

Glad it was not somethig serious! Moral-- keep an eye on your fuel/water separator.

I have had the filter rust so bad it leaked all the fuel out! Thankfully I always carry a spare. Acadamy Sports carries a two pack for little $!

I bought the entire Yamaha kit and new brass fittings for the hose connections. I completely rebooted for around $80. I’ll gently rinse everything from now on after my trips when I use live bait. That would 95+% of them. Even the base where the hoses connect and filter screws on was corroded beyond recognition.
