Well finally got on the water after tax season was over. Went out Friday, Saturday and Sunday am’s
Friday I took a long time friend that is battling brain cancer(doing well right now but it is a long tough battle). We did not have a bite but really enjoyed our time on the water and telling stories about the guys we hunt with.First spot we hit was muddy due to all the rain so we moved to the main part of the lake up near Coneross. Never marked any bait or fish much .
Went back solo Saturday am and started pulling baits around Andersonville Island and picked caught and released 2 6-8lbers and then headed up Tugaloo section and hit one of the main creek channels. Picked up 2 small fish and then all of a sudden rod in t top starts screaming and 20 minutes later I have my largest striper in the boat, 32lbs. I tried to revive but hook was down in gut and I fish would not swim away. I was going to get a fiberglass mount but guess I will mount the actual fish.
Took my 13 yr old nephew back Sunday am for a few hours before church and he caught 3 6-7 lbers and had a great time
All fish were caught on LARGE blue backs from The Bait Shop on Hwy 24.
Going to give it a whirl again this Friday and maybe Saturday.
Congratulations on the big fish! I know you would have loved it to be a day eariler. Skunked or not though, I’m sure geting out there with you was some good therapy for him.
Steelytom…“Seems like the big ones fight themselves to death”
Gonna have to take your word for it. I wouldn’t know anything about that.
I have found the same thing. IMO, the only way to get a fish in that big and still be in decent shape to release is to use much heavier gear than most people use striper fishing on the lakes. The fight lasts so long using 10 or 12 lb test that the fish is spent by the time you get it in.
Congrats. sounds like a wonderful weekend you had there. i can’t wait for my first “waller”. i have set a limit that it must be at least 20# or better to hit the wall.

Somewhere a few years ago one of my main fishing partners and I set 30lbs as the scale to which we would hang one on the wall. Sorry rascal caught a fat 40lber on Russell that year and my goal is actually 41lbs:smiley:.
I have caught and released a couple of 15 & 20 lbers but this fish was very fat. He was 38" long and I will try and post some pics when I load them on the computer if someone will let me email them or tell me how.
I did catch him on a fairly light spinning reel with power pro line and it took a lot out of both of us, heck even bent my landing net getting him in the boat.
Taxidermy man told me to bring him in after turkey season since he was jammed with turkey’s
I have caught two over 20#'s and both were pretty much dead by the time I got them in. Both were also caught on 8 and 10# line. Go ahead and send the pics to me and I’ll post them. You can do it through the site
