depends on what you’re looking for…

Lake Hartwell:

Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good to very good. There are reports of 20 to 30 pound fish being caught in 8 to 15 feet of water off points. Monitor water temperatures and look for the warmest water that isn’t muddy. Striper are attempting to spawn right now and moving into the tailwaters of the upstream dam, river or large creeks and feeding along key main-lake structure as they go. Check points in the middle of the reservoir on up; big striper are hitting large gizzard shad trolled off points up and down the Seneca.
Largemouth Bass: Good. Largemouth continue to move shallower and feed more aggressively with the sustained warm weather – look for fish in 10 - 12 feet of water with some moving even closer. Early fish are beginning to spawn while others are still staging.
Crappie: Excellent. The crappie bite is very good and fish are feeding aggressively in 14 to 15 feet of water. Look for large fish, not numbers of crappie, and try trolling small minnows or small white jigs. Also fish brushpiles with small to medium minnows, Alibis and curly tail grubs. Best action comes in the afternoons in areas where water has hit sixty degrees.

I fish it every week right now other than this weekend, I am headed down to IOP.

Stripers are doing well on freelines in main creeks or off of points in main channels.

Some guys are starting to cut bait fish but that is not my cup of tea.

Last Friday we got into a school of hybrid and ended up cathing 20+ fish 4 of which I caught on my fly rod. All were in the 6-8lb range. Kept a few for a neighbor but other than that all were released.
Also picked up a couple of stripers in one of the main creek channels.

I went back Saturday alone and a small cold front was pushing through and the fish were VERY scattered. I did pick up 4 stripers on freelines in 3 & 20 creek and then moved down to Andersonville Island and before I got lines in the water I had a “daymaker” on. After 10 minute battle landed, took pics and released 19.8 lber.

Fishing should be very good this week with bluebacks and freelines, also a lot of guys are doing well with umbrella rigs but I prefer the live bait and lighter tackle when I get on the fish

tprice,
If you would like company on Hartwell let me know. I’m in Pickens and fish the upper end of Hartwell sometimes. I’d like to fish the Tugaloo side this year. The wife and I took a drive a few weeks ago when the water was down to check out the structure that is usually under water. We got all the way up to Walker’s Creek access on the Ga side.
SeaPro180,
I don’t know which ramp you plan on using but here’s a site that might help.

I’d rather fish than eat.

I fish Hartwell pretty often but havent been in a couple of weeks. I plan on going this Sat morn and will probably just bass fish. Gonna wait a couple weeks for the Stripes when the herring run is in full swing. I usually fish out of 12 Mile this time of year and move down lake when it gets hot. The water is still down and its hard to get to my “honey hole”

You are welcome anytime you like drop me an email, I end up fishing alone a lot of times on Friday’s and would love the company and other ideas.

I purhcased a year long pass at Portman, got tired of climbing in and out of a deep v CC and getting all that ■■■■ mud in the boat. Also do not have to worry about the truck be broken into while I am out.

Went today from 7am -1pm and managed about 15 fish. A mixed bag of bucket mouths and spotts. Topwater was good in the morning but most of the fish were caught on the bottom. Saw a couple boiling at schools of bait that looked looked like Stripes but didnt get to them. The schooling was very spotty and short lived. Saw a good many boats Stiper fishing but didnt see any fish being caught to amount to anything. All in all it was a good day on the lake though.

there’s an article in South Carolina Game and Fish about stripers on Hartwell.
