Hatteras 4/17- tuna

Saturday started out with a call to Captain Bob of the fisnseeker, to find out that Saturday’s Charter , that hat gotten my Saturday spot, got cancelled due to weather.

We found out that our Sunday charter was 50/50 and may cancel aslo…

Forecast 18-20 feet at 8 seconds with 35-40 knot wind on Sat with 10’ breakers in Oregon and Hatteras inlets. that was Saturday…

We went anyway… Drove up Saturday afternoon/night… Arrived and found dinner then a suitcase of Coors… The other anglers arrived to more been consumption…looked around and …dang it was 3am…got a quick nap then off to the docks…

the only boat at Teachs layer with rods out is our Charter… The other captains were considering canceling…we told Capt Bob that the forecast called for the winds to lay down by 8am, so we waited at the marina and the 15-20 laid down to about 12-15 and we went fishing. 8-9feet at 8 seconds…nice to be on a 53 Carolina…

for all of you that have not had the pleasure of fishing from these inlets…it looks like the Captains are trying to ground their boats, most have a 4- 5 foot draft with a 9’ deep inlet. Then count the 8’ waves leaving a foot or so of water between sets…they surf the crests of two sets to get out…if they do it wrong they loose their boat… Scary crap…

Ok so we traverse the inlet w/o harm and in 45 min we are dropping the riggers and fishing.
some time passes and “FISH ON” we put the lady angler with us in the chair and she boats a Yellowfin tuna…Quickly!

We go on to have the pleasure of steady reeling all day… …we catch 26 fish…

24 alberts(false albacore) …3 blackfin…one YFT.

Just curious- why’d y’all keep the albies?

They cut the bellies out and use them for bait. We left them for the capt. and the mate. They started cleaning them as we were still there. Skinnee who you got in oregon inlet?? Def do that again soon!! I think if anyone that loves to fish def GO!!! Its an experiance those guys live and fish a different life!!! Great ppl and good times.
