Hatteras/OI - Feb. 17/18

Another round on the Outer Banks last week. Weather was awful on friday and beautiful saturday. Good bite friday(2 for 4) and the fleet had em pushed down on saturday with tons of life and busting fish away from the fleet. Had a few swings and misses on saturday but no love. That’s it for a little while. A few pics.

Nice fish Cortland! What are the big dark square things on the plate? Looks like dried sea weed!

Your correct, sea weed.

Wow, Cortland with some salt a lots of hot sauce I’d eat sea weed!

Courtland, where are you staying up there this time of year? Fin n feathers closed I think.

Yeah, sort of feeling my way around. Fins and Feather’s was awesome, dirty, old and cheesy, but awesome.

Lat trip was Ramada in Nags Head. Nice enough but nothing special. Hate going up and down the elevator with all my gear.

This time fished one day out of Hatteras and one out of OI. We stayed in the Captains apartment both night in Frisco. Perfect for a couple of dudes. Six bunks and a kitchen.

Weather looks real pretty…

i’m seasick looking at the pictures. Thanks for the fish.

rough ocean

Photos never seem to do big seas justice. That being said, when it looks rough in a picture, you know it was rough…

Wow that is an intense ocean…I give you props…

There’s a reason the Japanese pay half a million for a fish. It is a waste to cook if you ask me. Very rich and tender, although this particular fish had very little fat on it. Sort of the tenderloin of tuna, regardless of the size, although it can vary from fish to fish.

I do tend to be a bit liberal with the knife. If a normal fish dresses out at 65% of total weight, mine will be 20-25%. I take the best of the best. If you try to eat 40 pounds off a 70 pound YFT, you’re going to get some crappy meat. The benefit of catching your own I guess.

Y’all got all the bites on jigs courtland?

Bites came on all gear.

The second picture is awesome. Provides some perspective on how rough the ocean was.

Pretty sure I could provide chum in those seas… looks like you earned that sashimi.
