Have You Hugged A Spot-Tail Today???

I’m fallin’ in love with my new camera :stuck_out_tongue:

That is a nice fish - what kind of mount are you using to be able to take those pictures?

Matt

Thanks Matt, Actually those are 3 nice fish!!!. I had a heck of a day. Here’s the first revision of my camera mount; there’s a standard 6" tripod with folding legs that you can buy, unscrew the folding legs and you have a 1 inch OD (outside diameter) tube with the camera swivel on top, get 2 dollars worth of PVC from Lowes/Homedepot, a 1" OD end cap/plug and a 1” ID (inside diameter) connector coupler/fitting that’s about 2" long, bolt the end cap/plug to the Yak flat side down, stick the tripod tube in the 1" ID connector and stick the Camera/tripod tube/1" ID connector on to the bolted down end cap. I drilled a hole in the 1" ID connector and drove a screw into the tripod tube to help connect the two. Hope that helps…if you want I can send you a photo of the rig.

that looks fun! so… Where were you? (seems like harbor) Tackle? Tides?

tip: use flash to fill in shadows.

If you wouldn’t mind I would like to see a picture of your setup. I am tired of not being able to take decent pictures of fish.

Matt

Taking pics on the kayak is easy. Get your fish ready. Make sure flash is on. Make sure timer is set. Set camera on the front of your boat, click the shutter. Smile!

sometimes I use the exposure comp (common on most digi cams, looks like +/- usually). Go up to +1.0 for more exposure, brightness).

I would like to do something more permanent myself, thought about putting where my depth finder is when I’m not using it. Unlike you stinky I don’t have a water proof camera, I guess I could stick a zip-lock over it until needed?

Hey Matt

Here’s a photo of my camera mount. I think I need a lot practice with my system before I can get the quality photos that Palmettobum’s “Crotch-Cam” can capture.

nice job, looks simple and light weight

Thanks Mud, the major problem with this design is that it’s the high point on my Yak, so I have to be careful loading it (upside down) on to the roof of my Jeep and same problem when flippin’ it over to wash. I would suggest adding star washers to the bolt to help prevent the end cap from rotating when twisting off the upper portion.

Thanks stinky, you give me the incentive to mount my camera:smiley:Don’t have the right fasteners to finish it tonight. I try to get some photos of it tomorrow.

Hey Mud

Dang!!! An electronic depth finder on a YAK??? My depth finder is my paddle :sunglasses:. I have an idea for adding a cheap watertight casing/housing to a non-water-proof camera but I’m not sure if it will work on your rig. I’ll give ya the details at the tournament sign up Wednesday night, assuming you’ll be there.
