I am going on a 7 day Hawaiian cruise next year and have several long stops in Maui and Kong. Does anyone have a recommendation for a charter in those areas?
If it drives,floats ,or #$%@s …rent it!!!

Don’t know much about charters over there, but I did see something very interesting. At the southern most point on the big island (which is the southern most point in the US)folks were catching wahoo and Mahi from the shore. They were fishing at a rock cliff that was about 50 feet high. The folks were camping so they could fish all night. The method used was also intriguing. They would inflate a plastic garbage bag and tie it to their line and let the breeze take it out about 200 yards baited with what looked like live ballyhoo. A large grappling hook was used to gaff the fish when they were brought to the cliff face.
No long boat ride, no gas bill just lots of nice fishing from a lawn chair while drinking beer. If you are going to the Big Island, you could give it a try.

I’m headed to Kona in a few weeks as well for a wedding. Seems to be a good amount of highly rated charters there for a pretty reasonable price. There are a few threads on The Hull Truth with some recommendations. If you go out on a good one, please let me know.

When I was in basic training, my “buddy” was a Hawaiian and he told me about this. He also spoke about catching some huge fresh water prawns.
You can’t go wrong with anyone in Kona (Honokohau Harbor), but Jeff Fay on Humdinger (https://www.humdingersportfishing.com/) is one of the best.

We went to Kona in October of 2012 and rented a boat near the energy lab to go and snorkel where capt cook landed. On the way to the monument, we trolled two home made rigs our guide had with him just to see if we could catch anything. We landed two wahoo(Ono) along with a few more knock downs all within 5 miles of the coast and less than an hour ride to the site. If things haven’t changed, it will be tough to not catch fish.
Snorkeling at the monument was good as well.We also took a helicopter over the volcano which was pretty impressive but I doubt they would allow that now.

Wife and I went to Hawaii 6-7 years ago after she completed her MBA. A few instances that confirmed we weren’t in the lowcountry anymore:
Saw a pickup truck towing a typical 15’ Boston Whaler through town. The BW had two rods mounted on swivel rod holders. The reels were huge!.. Like the size of a gallon of milk. I’m thinking: this guys hooking up with monster fish ½ a mile from the coast!
We visited Spouting Horn Park on Kauai. Next to the park is a tiny one lane boat launch. You launch your boat and have 150’ before you are threading a reef and confronted by the standard Pacific swells. I bet they don’t have the “lowcounty boat landing drama” we get! Do a google search for Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor
