any word on when the big boys are gonna be making their way up the Saluda?
Some are behind the zoo already. But they wont be up above 20 for awhile is my guess if they even come all the way up. The really big fish never left the zoo last year.

witch Saluda? Above or below murrey!
Lost a beast off the boat ramp at hope ferry, ate a live bridled jackfish under a trot line float

Did they ever close off the access behind the zoo like planned? I’ve never fished it there
Yea they closed it unfortunately. Drunks ruined it for everyone. You can still fish there but you need to put in upstream with a kayak or canoe and float down. Hoping to make it out there Saturday if the current allows.

I know of a 30 plus pounder landed and released by a dude on a kayak on the Saluda. Good to know the big boys are back…
Sleigh ride! Woo-hoo! Like to see a picture of that one. Sounds like a HOSS!
It’s tough to get any good striper in a yak, especially around structure. I lost many last summer that would drag me straight into the trees or anywhere they want to go. And most of those were just small teens. Even the ones you do get boat side are a handful to get ahold of. But that’s what’s so fun…ha…I have thought about bringing a net but that just takes the fun out of it…lol…

More power to you young fellers, Quit kayak fishing at 65 a few years to late I think
I put in at Metts Landing today and paddled upstream to the dam. Using artificials I didn’t catch anything but a Pickerel. If I put in at Gardendale and float down to I-26 will I be able to paddle back up to Gardendale?
Yes that isn’t but a couple hundred yards. But to be honest there isn’t great Fishing through that small stretch. It is kinda early for fish to be up that far. But once fish are up that far it’s better to put in at Gardendale and paddle up till u get to the dock on the left fishing as you go. Then float back down. Evenings and mornings are best.
Nice way to spend a sat or anyday in july/Aug is to meet at Gardendale pile everything in 1 or 2 vehicles early in the morning. Drive back up To metts or Saluda shoals. Then float from there to gardendale. About a 6hr float if u stop and fish productive areas. Prob could make it in 4hrs if u just floated straight down.
Do not fish anything over 1800cfs. It just isn’t wOrth the effort. You float too fast at anything faster and fish seem to not be very active.

FYI for those of you using the old Metts landing. It is now called Hope Ferry Landing. I guess those in power are determined to remove his name from everything it was on.

Chip, that’s actually the I20 bridge you are referring to.
ratherbe, be carefull going too far down river from where you plan on taking out. If you don’t already, you should sign up to get notification on your phone shortly before they start an increase in water being released. Even then, I’d be a little nervous about going down as far as I26 if you need to paddle back to Gardendale to take out.
I agree with Chip that’s it’s probably a bit early for up that way. May be a few, but definately will get better. Trout probably a better bet right now.
Charles, good example of why you usually see “Memorial” in the name of a landing, highway etc…named after a public figure.

Thanks tim. Yea I read it wrong, maybe in my mind i know that’s the only bridge I would float to if I had to paddle back up…
Ratherbfishin you could also put in on the Riverwalk down by Gervais st bridge. Walk up the sidewalk till u can’t go anymore. then just start paddling up. There are some nice striper pockets between there and the zoo. And in the section you can get on the smallmouth as well. From the zoo to Gervais you can typically get a bass slam if u try for it. Striper smallmouth Largemouth all on the same float and on the same bait
