Went Backpacking up Hazel Creek in NC over the weekend with some friends. Friday was all about the rain. Backpacked in the 6 miles to campsite 83. Ate dinner and went to bed with it pouring the rain down. Saturday morning brought sun and a great day of fishing. Small rainbows and browns. Most people in our group caught 15-25 fish. Sunday loaded the pack and headed out.
not much better than a fresh trout in the skillet at breakfast, nice pictures

Guys it was a great trip other than the heavy rain. I used one fly and started cathing fish on it from the begining. Used a murrays flying beetle. This fly has always produced for me on these mountain streams. The beetle has some brown elk hair tied on top and you can really see it in low light. I like the size 12.
I get them from www.murrysflyshop.com or stop at this fly shop on the way to PA. It is in VA and the owner has a fly shop and a pharmacy in the same store. He will be filling prescriptions and come out and help you pick some flys out then go back and work in the prescriptions.
Harry Murray is an Appalachian legend! his rapidan fly has worked pure miracles for us in N Georgia. thats a beautiful brown in the pics, thanks for the report!
I have some of the Mr. Rapidan and have had some great luck on them as well.
I grew up fishing those little creeks, the countryside makes up for the size of the fish, awesome experience, nice report.
The small creeks are great for just relaxing. I love the lighter wt rod and the small trout taking the dry.
