Making the first of my yearly fall trips to the hills to flail over the little troutsies with the long rod. The wife went to the beginner’s class at the Angler a couple of weeks ago and she is going to give this a serious try, also. Leaving early (4:00 AM) on Friday headed for SW Virginia and SE Tennessee. I hear that the water in the headwater streams is extremely low but that the tailwaters are fishing very well. We’ll be in the Damascus,VA, Elizabethon, TN areas through mdiday next Tuesday. Report upon return.
Sounds wonderful look forward to reading your report when you return.Nice to hear you got your wife in that class and im sure you will have a blessed time.Be safe and good luck. Take lots of pics.
Hopefully in the next week or two ill be able to slip some time in while visiting the NC mountains.

Was able to get my wife into fishing and she loves it now. No complaints if we plan a trip out west around the fly-fishing now.
Some of the best money I ever spend was for a guide one day, told him I did not care if I did not catch a fish all day as long as my wife waqs cathching fish I was happy. She waa able to land several trout with the largest being a 17 in brown. This allowed me to fish and not spend all my time helping her and she really enjoyed the tips from someone else.

You are absolutely right about the guide. I’ve done that route with my son and I still hire a guide for me once in a while to learrn new places and to get a “tune-up”. I took the wife over fathers’ day weekend (too hot to really fish)and she did manage a wild brown (small). On this trip we have a guide hired for a full day on Sunday. That way…I get to fish and he helps her!

Jeremy, might want to wait until we get some rain up here before you come. Also, some might be interested to know that NC has cut in half the fall stocking numbers because of the water levels. Keep in touch and I will show you some places to go when you come up here.

I hate to say it because sometimes you get what you asked for…in spades…but, a couple of tropical storms going up from the gulf coast states across the back side of Georgia into Tenn, NC and VA would sure be a blessing to the streams.

We can only hope they make it here!!!

I hope you were able to find some water. I live in Charlottesville VA and I fly fish all over the state and I would say that 75% of the rivers are still as can be. The only places that I have heard of any action is the Jackson River below lake MooMaw.
If anyone is ever up in VA shoot me a message and I’ll point out some good spots for you.
