Hey everyone, this is my first post on the site. I’ve been picking your brains for years though before I joined. So, thank you for knowledge. I’m debating on a trip this weekend. (land-based) I have a few spots for reds, and inshore type stuff, but I have a lot of bigger gear gathering dust and I was hoping to target some sharks or larger reds out at the lighthouse inlet on Folly. With the scattered showers and possible thunderstorms in the forecast, I’m hesitant to make that 1/2 mile walk with my cart only to hold a big lightning rod in a storm. Y’all think its gonna just be spotty? I don’t mind standing in some rain or getting wet for thirty minutes here and there and putting the bags over my reels. I guess I’m wondering if I should stick to some spots I can bail out of quickly if it gets bad out? But I really wanna hang out at the inlet. I just like the view.
Also if there are rod and lure builders around, we should talk.
No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.
Are you talking about the north end of Folly where you can see the lighthouse? If so, I have fished there a few times this year with no luck on respectable redfish. I have landed a few sharks, a couple of good sized flounder, lots and lots of whiting, and of course all the ususal junk (toadfish, rays, etc…) Others may have had luck there this year and may be able to chime in.
Understood, and yes thats where I meant. Thanks for the input on what to possibly expect.

I haven’t been to the Shem Creek public boardwalk/pier yet. Does anyone have good/not-so-good avg. trips out there? I’ll get a boat one day. LoL I’m mostly a Congaree River and Saluda River striper/smallmouth wader.

I’m driving down from cola tomorrow and staying till at least late Sunday(unless weather reeeally looks bad). I don’t normally fish from the bank(except wading in the congaree and saluda like you), but I plan on messing around if I have nothing better to do and the tide is right. Might hit up some sheepshead spots as a back up plan. PM me if you want to meet up and try and search for some good spots.
