Headed to Georgetown in the morning.

I know it will be pretty busy, can someone give me a tip on where to fish. We have been down there a few times with no luck at all. I plan to get some mud minnows live and some shrimp if I can get them this time of year. My first time down this year. Just general information would be nice or even direction on how to get to the north inlet. putting in at the large landing by the bridge downtown.

The water in MI is pretty. We haven’t had an overly rainy spring so I would I would imagine the fish are spread out.

i would say check the shell banks and look for the rocks(on ff) of the north channel in the bay… i have herd of a few places off the shipping channel where their is structure/rocks but i cant personally direct you to where they are.

as for how to get to the north jetty’s… jones creek is your best bet… i personally havn’t run it… if you do plan on a low tide so u can avoid the shifting sand bars. other option is run out of the georgetown jetty’s and run up and back in. may be the safest bet… and the one i would recommend…

Thanks, If I have any luck this trip I will report back. We are closest to Georgetown so we would love to catch something there. for some reason though we have not figured it out yet.

i think your issue is a normal one with winyah bay… the current is fast… and the ground is flat… muddy bay, mother norton are very very shallow which really leaves the shipping channel. what looks like a decent body of water is not really the case.

most everyone runs to the north jetty’s (why i wont run that way on weekend) but it seems like the place to be to catch… no one fishes the south end of the jetty’s everyone fishes the lighthouse side.

most boats i see work the heck out of the islands i would assume pop corks, simple bottom rigs… on a slow drift… try and work the banks and keep an eye for flatties…
if you left the south island ferry/landing and made a right going towards the jetty’s their is a rock pile somewhere past the island… iirc the bay has 2 artificial reefs and one that does not exist and is on the map… it was purposed but never installed.

i know most people will say run to the jetty’s, shell banks or the structure near shipping channel off the shell banks…

i wouldn’t touch mi/pawleys this week… did a quick flounder trip early last week… it was packed during the week… way to much traffic and rental people running those waters to enjoy fishing…

im sure the jetty’s and bay will be packed out as well.

if you are near downtown…

stormy seas(seafood) and independent both will have fresh shrimp you can pick up and have accessible dock age. stormy seas is next hazzard marine independent is just above harbor walk/sea tow…

We decided to try and make a run up the coast for North Inlet, but upon reaching the ocean decided not to as the ole Skiff is rough in anything but perfect seas. We ended up fishing near the edge of the channel and caught probably 8 Altlantic Sharp nose probably lost another 5, a blue fish, One Oyster toad I caught twice. That stupid thing after I released it hung around and when I put the live bait over the side, while straightening out my gear, he bit the same live bait again like 30 seconds after I released him. Stupid fish or really determined, the jury is still out. 3 sting rays all by 9:30am. Well not what we wanted, but it was fun fighting something even if it wasnt something I wanted.

Probably had 6 or 7 large sports fishing boats cruising 40 knots up the channel that could give a rats ass about the poor fisherman who could not find any better place to fish. But then again it is the ICW so I shant complain too much, oops. We had fun regardless so who care right. made it home by 2pm. One day I will make it to the NI I promise.

Best way to NI is Jones Creek. You’ll need to follow someone the first time or go slow at low tide. DO NOT try to get into NI from the ocean, there’s only one small channel that constantly shifts, is not straight and has current and waves coming from several directions.
