well as fun as its been its time for me to leave and transfer to another command. definitely different here than hunting/fishing up north but pretty sure i figured it out all right. cant complain about the things i have gotten to do outside my training schedule and i wont be going far so i may have to visit from time to time.
1st good trip i had was going to a nearshore reef for some sheephead. didnt have the BSB brigade that year so plenty of convicts in the cooler.
after a nice baa fish beatdown the dogfish moved in and we were hookin em as soon as the line hit the bottom. the capt also told me no doubt that im the only client thats caught a shark not even hooked (2-3 followed the hooked sharks every time) bare handed and tossed it in the boat.
i also decided to continue grabbing sharks bare handed on sullivans island after tourists kept saying there was a “hammerhead” in the tide pool
just on the other side of that tidepool i found a nice bull red…however the sandbar i got him from is long gone.
also managed to nab a nice red on a topwater plug…check that one off the list.
cant forget mr flatty as well…my favorite on the table from inshore! never complain about trout either.
Very nice and yes keep us posted. What is that strange reflection in the first picture just above the trolling motor. Looks like a shiney gator under water grabbing something.
David, nice to meet you and I also appreciate your service…best of luck to you and you always know you can find us on the interweb, bragging about this or telling stories about that…and you are always welcome to come back for another oyster roast…take care my friend!
Looks like you’ve had a helluva time in SC. Hope you do equally as well with your future postings. Thank you for your service and prayers for your future and safety.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You’ve done a lot more than probably 95% of native South Carolinian’s! And I’d be surprised if 5% of us have stuck a hog, not counting a domestic one. probably like .1%.
Best of luck to you and your military career. Being 40 and getting a retirement check for the rest of your life is something a lot wish they had. Some are just figuring out what they want at 40. Having a steady income is a big help in doing what you really like later in life, if said interest does pay much.
solid way to really take advantage of what the lowcountry has to offer. Like Fred said, most people havn’t come close to what you’ve been able to accomplish.
Met you at the last oyster roast. Thanks for your service. It definitely looks like you took full advantage of what SC has to offer. I hope you have half as much fun wherever the navy sends you next.
we are so glad you called us and Charleston “home” for a while. thanks for all you do and i hope that you will be Blessed with safe travels and happiness wherever you go! please continue to post from wherever you are!
Just like others have said thank you for your service and may god bless you where ever you go.
Youi may be leaving the Lowcountry but the Lowcountry will never leave you.
double d: yup im def gonna be takin some of the lowcountry back with me wherever i go. as i mentioned ill be makin shrimp and grits and she crab soup in the future whether i sc or not and i could have a ton of fun i ohio wit he kayak in rivers fr smallmouth and upground reservoirs for bout everything typically caught up there, but unfortunately ohio makes ya register kayaks even if they dont have a motor on em
fred: i def believe you in saying very few have gone and stuck a wild boar before, but many people i know back home would be up a tree tail between their legs son as they hear it start fightin with he dogs…along with seeing a shark on the beach and gators swimmin in front of a kayak
salty: LMAO i found out about that site not long after gettin here an of course had a good laugh. ive actually seen one of those stickers posted on a gas pump somewhere too. although i am from up north i def understand the frustration dealing with tourists swimming through my shark lines all the time among many, many other annoyances. i dunno when ill get out but have no clue on where ill end up…all depends on the job market so for the time being looks like military = better job security = stay in a while.
ill still hang around from time to time and a suggestion for admin how about maybe adding an out of state fishing/hunting reports thread to the forum? i know theres a travel section but that might be a better option for those looking to travel to fish/hunt and not just vacation along with peoples reports from wherever they go. looks like im headed out friday and of course i have a few rods saved for the trip home
before i forget…no outdoor adventure is complete without epic failure before i go ill share a few times of the ones that got away.
*one of the charters i went on we were in the harbor for sharks and a rod starts screaming right beside me. i pick the rod up to start fighting and a 6ish foot blacktip launches completely out of the water only to snap the line a second later.
*same charter we freeline a horse mullet and have no clue where it swam off to as the line was slack. we see a massive tarpon smack the surface and stay on the surface a few minutes but no rod goes off as we were hoping for. about 10 minutes of watching it goes by and someone grabs that rod and reels it in to check the bait/recast in the tarpon’s direction. the line tightens towards the tarpon, the person holding the rod almost got it ripped out of their hands for about 2 seconds, and back comes an empty circle hook.
*early this year i was at north folly with a whole live mullet for bait. a friend and i have a never ending shark battle as an inside joke between us and the rod doubles over and bait feeder is letting out line. i turn on the video camera i had rigged up and fight whatever it was for half an hour only to have it dive down and slice my line on the rock ledge. never saw what it was due to muddy water but probably a big shark or massive ray.
*just a couple weeks ago on base nothing was hitting lures or mullet so down went the frozen shrimp and i started catching small black drum. after about 3 of em the line feels quite a bit heavier so i was hoping for one big enough to keep. what came up surely wasnt a better drum tho.
*last season i was in one of my favorite spots in francis marion and a ninja buck sneaks in while i wasnt paying attention. 40 yard shot for a muzzleloader: no problem. pulling
