Those conditions are not physically possible. Where are you getting your weather reports from ?

5 feet at 10 seconds is actually a pretty nice looking ocean (long rollers). That doesn’t happen in 17-23knt winds!!!

SkinneeJ,
I use Buoyweather.com
You add it all together and make a decision!!
All depends in how bad you want to go fishing!

Buoyweather may just report the primary swell and period, not significant wave height or the energy vs frequency (which was an insightful graph on the NDBC page, no longer available for edisto buoy)
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/show_plot.php?station=41013&meas=spec&uom=E

-Stormsurf has a good breakdown of prime and secondary wave heights direction and period with wind overlays, but it updates slowly for new model cycles.

Yeah, I noticed the Edisto Buoy with some funny numbers a few weeks ago. I still trust the wind measurements and sea height, but I do not trust the intervals some times. I think it’s well overdue for maintenance.

I miss all the data it use to send us…i volunteer my boat for a repair mission NOAA…

I don’t trust the period at all anymore. Cancelled a trip a couple weeks ago for a 4 sec period reading that from the reports was like a 10 sec period.

I do look at the wave height and intervals but the wind is the number 1 thing to be concerned with. The buoy definitely has some issues.

maintenance will be suspended until funding is allocated

We know…

But my offer was sincere, hell i’ve caught enough bait next to it,we could give it a jump start if needed.
