HEADING SOUTH TO LAKE MURRAY

Getting ready to head south to fish Lake Murray for a couple of day and take in a race. Anyone using boards are all of the fish still to deep. I really like fishing with boards and Redi Floats.

Fish are deep

Most reports I have seen over the last week indicate fishing is getting tough. There is an increasing amount of floaters showing up as well. Fish will still be deep for a while.

Joby

And the ones that will bite are so stressed they’re not much fun to catch. Fished down rods last week and they look like gar when they hit.

Hopefully things get better about Labor Day or so. Until then, I’m going to give the LM a try if I need a fix.

JZO, when are you planning to come down?

They don’t seem to be hungry. I was out yesterday from 6-10am. and couldn’t buy a bite. Marked a lot of fish at around 60’ in several spots. I just couldn’t get one to bite. I squeezed one out last Sunday and 3 the week before that.

Let me know how it goes. I have been mostly bass fishing this year.

Heading out the 31st and will hit Lexington at my brothers the 1st. When not going after Stripers my brother and I do good hitting LM. I’ll only be in town for a few days as we plan on taking in a NASCAR race. Either September or November I will head south by myself and then we will really hit the lake mornings and evenings. One of my goals this year is to get a Striper on a fly rod with a spinning reel which I use in the Salmon River for Steelhead.
I love light tackle!

Your best bet for a striper on a fly will probaly be in Oct. Nov.

I like to thank everyone for all of the tips that made my trip even better. We did catch some nice fish and only lost a couple. All of the fish were caught on 8 and 10 pound test line. Caught almost all of my fish on top water lures.
Bought new boars with aluminum blades just before I came down and couldn’t get them to work that great. Can’t really complain did catch a striper on them.
Being that we had to keep our stripers we were able to give them to a couple of folks that went home happy each time we went in.
Now for our awesome last night out. We fished all the points heading up from the Dam until the first set of islands. Trolled across the island and headed down lake trolling and hit one gar and one striper. About a 1/4 of a mile from the towers the striper starting schooling and we looked like two guys in a Chinese fire drill. AWESOME!
Can’t wait until October to head back south and again thaks to everyone for the help.

You don’t have to keep them, but they count towards your limit if you let them go or not. If they are schooling on top you can most likely release them without harm. Keep all you want, just letting you know you don’t have to. When the water is hot and the fish are deep you may as well keep them since they will die anyway.

I meant to get a current South Carolina Department of Natural Resource book. Well I went on line and all I read was unlawful to take, attempt to take,or possess more than 5. Now I’m going to have to some more reading.
