Heading to Savannah

I am going to Savannah ga for next two weeks. Staying near the army base. Is there any public landings close by that I can target inshore species to include sheepshead? I may rent a kayak also. I am taking a rod and tackle and I do not plan to keep anything seeing as I will be staying at a hotel without a kitchen. Any suggestions would be helpful, I just want to pass my free time catching fish and not getting hammered spending money in bars. Feel free to PM me.

I plan on fishing from kayak or the landings. Most likely the landing.

Just got back from a Thanksgiving camping trip in Savannah. Campground was on HWY 204 just across the Ogeechee River from Fort Stewart. Had grand plans to fish while there but mother nature didn’t cooperate. Google up Chatham County Parks and Rec number and give them a call. They have a few folks who can give updates on fishing conditions and locations. I searched Google maps and found a few places that looked inviting.
Kings Ferry boat ramp is just off I-95 on HWY #17 at the Ogeechee River. Close to the Fort. Has a fishing pier but this is more brackish water.
Follow HWY 204 southeast to the Wormsloe area. There is a public fishing pier on the west side of Shipyard creek that has a good mix of shallow mud flats and structure from the highway bridge. The pier ends very close to the channel barrier under the bridge so there may be some sheeps. The east side has a pier also but it’s closed for repairs.
Just a mile or so further down Hwy 204 is the Rodney J. Hall boat ramp on the Skidaway River. Has a small area to bank fish but it’s shallow. Think you can rent a kayak from this location. if so, Google will reveal some very good looking creeks and marshes very close to the ramp.
We had planned to go to Tybee Island to fish but the king tide and winds flooded the road to the island so didn’t make it. Heard good reports for catches from both the ocean pier and the
Backwater pier off Fishermans Walk.
On the way to Tybee on Hwy 80 is a trail along the river called McQueens Island Trail. Hear there are several spots along this trail that offer decent bank fishing opportunities. Tybee is a good 45 minutes from where we camped but seemed to offer the best chance to put the kids on fish without having a boat.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

There’s a reason I’m close to the top of the food chain.

SCS, thanks for the awesome tips. I drove down and fished the diamond causeway pier by the 204 bridge and checked out Rodney j hall landing as well. I do plan on renting a kayak from there if I can get a good day off to go. Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it. Lord knows that I would love to get into some sheepshead.
