hearings today

Hey anyone have any info on the hearings held today in congress on the MSA? I tried to view it live during the hearings but couldn’t access it. anyone have any word if anything is changing? thanks, mike

Mike,

I got a chance to listen for about 30 minutes. In a nutshell NOAA is standing by their use of best available Science to validate the numbers. They repeated, that although it might not be perfect it was “pretty” good!!! They stated that they have been holding public hearings to gather information to make more informed decisions!!! There were a number of individuals that took shots at them including one hard*&& female from Hawaii!! NOAA blamed it on Congress and Congress blamed it on NOAA. NOAA claimed that because of the quick and decisive measures to end overfishing that many of the fish stocks were responding well - Whatever that means?? The biggest joke I heard was when the NOAA rep stated that basically because of them the industry and all the jobs associated would be saved!! WHAT?? On a positive note if the politicians that were speaking actually believe in what they were saying we might actually see some sort of change! BUT remember Obama promised CHANGE too! If anyone else got a chance to listen I would love an update as well! This craziness has to stop at some point! Just my .02

FYI - I think the whole hearing can be viewed on the link submitted by the RFA

Thankyou downandout, It doesn’t supprise me one bit that NOAA thinks they’re doing a good job. and anything negitive they pass the buck to Congress and Congress take responsibility what a joke! It’s job preservation. hopefully someone will get some common sense and change this broken law. I saw some photos of the meeting and I don’t think any of them ever picked up a fishing pole in their lives! I’ll look for the link again. Thanks, Have a Merry Christmas! Mike
