Heavy duty trolling motor plug flush mount?

My new trolling motor is due in soon so I need to get my boat wired up for it. It’s a minn kota 80 lb 24v unit. I overkill everything I do, so for the 12ft of wire I need to run will be 2ga. I got it from a wrecked truck several years ago.

Anyway, I am looking for a heavy duty flush mount receptacle and plug assembly to run my motor. Everything that I have seen in my research that is flush mount is weak looking and incapable of a 45a draw. I want to mount the plug in the hatch cover so I don’t have to cut a big hole in the fiberglass. I ordered the quick release bracket because I need to be able to remove the unit for family beach time.

Look up Anderson plugs, they will hold your amperage but not really for flush mounting. It will be the last plug you buy.

If you mount it in the hatch cover, you might have a water problem over time. The recepticle may fill with water since it will be mounted vertical not horizontal…just a thought.

Agreed 100% Use Marinco plugs, female on the lip up front and male on the TM. West Marine has the Marinco plugs and they are very good. I have mine mounted inside edge of the anchor locker and have held up well.

Here’s the one I use on mine.

But the wire adapter is for 6ga. I’m not sure if you’ll fit 2ga in it.

This one might work. If mine ever fails, I’ll go this route.

Thanks for the replies. I really like that marineco receptacle with the cover. I think it would be best mounted sideways up on my deck, not vertically in the hole cover. I just cringe when it comes time to cut holes in fiberglass. It just seems so permanent. If I mounted it in the cover, I could just replace the 5$ cover.

I might just for now cut a hole in the cover and use one of those anderson plugs under the deck. I could then get another cover and put it on when its family time. I am not trying to cheap out, I just want to make sure everything with this motor works out 100% I am still wary of the 80lb thrust with a 22’ boat. Minn Kota assured me it would be ok since its light and no t-top.

I have motor guide 82# thrust on my 22’ and it’s good to go…

Also spend the money on a 50A thermal circuit breaker… I had a regular circuit breaker on mine 40A and it failed all my wiring caught on fire I luckily got it unplugged and tossed in the drink before it got any worse.

marineco or minnkota plug, basically the same thing
