Had 4 or 5 Toms blasting the woods this morning gobbling. Had to make a move on them after the bird we set up on started moving away, toward the other ones.
Moved about 500 yards until we got close enough to set up. Called in one, while two others were gobbling in place.
Had one almost in gun range when it spooked off, but when we moved up on these we passed the first one we heard, so now he was coming in behind us.
Finally got him to 37 yards but that was it, he wasn’t willing to close the distance, so had my buddy take the shot. BOOM, and bird dropped.
Heard at least 150 gobbles this morning.
18 pounds, 10 inch beard, only 1 one inch spur, other was worn down to a nub.
Beautiful bird and a great hunt!

I see nothing that went wrong on this hunt, which usually isn’t the case as we all know! Congrats!!! Hunted the other morning on WMA and could only hear one of the 7 birds in the area due to the winds, called in a hen which flew up into a tree behind us at 65 yards which later called in another hen that flew up into the same tree which later finally had the ol’ tom coming in to the setup and apparently another hen that hadn’t flown up yet coaxed the ol’ boy back into the safety of the swamp. Those 2 hens stayed in that tree calling to me back and forth for over 2 hours until we had to move to a different setup. That bird on the dirt is striking a very good selfie pose called the Coffin Squat!!!
