Hello- New Member Here

Hello. I’m a new member from Summerville and beginning to get into some saltwater fishing with my two boys (9 &12). I have been fishing freshwater for 35-40 years off and on, primarily up north (Pennsylvania, Tennessee, etc.) Moved back to SC about 10 years ago. I have been off shore once or twice and fished in the intracoastal a few times, but it’s been a while and I definitely don’t consider myself a saltwater fisherman. Recently, I broke out the old freshwater gear and began to teach my boys how to fish. We have been out to Edisto River (Good Hope Landing, 17A bridge, Givhans Ferry). They love it. They may not know it yet but it is in their blood.
Since it was an instant hit with the boys I picked up some new gear to get started in salt. I figure I can also use the salt rigs for some big cat fishing as well. So far I have picked up 2 Spinfisher V 6500 reels, 2 Ugly Stik tiger 7’ spinning rods 10-50 med, 40# Power Pro moss green, 20# and 60 # leader, circle hooks, etc. Of course, we also picked up an assortment of ZMAN plastics. I do not have a boat and will be fishing from wherever I can gain access. Maybe the battery, Cosgrove Bridge, Beaches, inlets, etc. I’m also teaching the boys how tie knots and to set up carolina and chicken rigs, etc.
Anyway, hopefully I didn’t ramble on too long for my introduction. I’m glad to be here and really enjoy reading the posts and seeing the photos. I might even know some of you guys, I grew up in Ashborough East in Summerville in the early 80’s. I’m appreciative of any advice you can give me as I get started in salt. Thanks again!

Go to the Mt Pleasant Pier. Find that Jiggin Jerry guy. Sit, observe.

I’m with 23. Tons of fish over there. That pier runs the biggest chum slick down here. Plus Jerry is always eager to help folks out.

Knotty - welcome to the site. Please consider joining Summerville Saltwater Anglers fishing club. We are a family oriented fishing club that is very active and we would love to have you and your boys join. We even have a youth member on our board of directors. Next meeting is a week from Wednesday. Any questions feel free to PM me. - Dave

Thanks for the welcome and tips. I’ll check the pier out and look for “Jiggin Jerry”. Optiker, I’ll keep the club in mind. I might scout around a little this weekend for some new spots. Thanks again.
