Hello

Hello to all from Okinawa, Japan. I’m from Huger, SC right outside of Charleston in Berkely County. Currently, I am stationed in Okinawa, Japan at 4th Marine Regiment on Camp Schwab. I will be back home next summer. I grew up fishing the Wando River, and I’m glad to be on this forum now to be able to communicate with some of the locals. I just bought a new Skeeter ZX22 Bay with the Yamaha 250hp SHO. Here is the pic. Hope the pic shows up. Some of you will probably see me next year riding around on the Wando. Can’t wait to get back home.

Welcome Skeeter and thank you for your service. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you on the water.

Welcome and thanks for your service Marine!!

Thanks. I got the boat from Marshall’s Marine in Lake City. Nope…I could care less about the lakes. I do most of my freshwater fishing in ponds or small lakes, and I have caught my share of nice largemouths there. I love the saltwater. Here is the pic of my fish wall that I intend on making bigger with more mounts. All 3 largemouths are over 8lbs. Both of the Speckled Sea Trout are as follows: 27.5" and 7lbs and the other was 30" and 8lbs. When I get back, I need me a 10 plus pound Sheep and a 40 plus pound Red for the next two on the wall.

Nice rig Skeeter! Is Pappasan still cookin Yakisoba outside the front gate there in Henoko? It’s been 20 years, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Nope…drunk jarheads screwed that up. There are several liberty restrictions over here that were nonexistent 20 years ago. I remeber those days because I have been in over 20 years. Now when something happens–even minor things–the whole world knows it via the internet or TV in an instant. So, the younger Marines are all restricted to Cinderella liberty, and they must be back on base by midnight. Recently, there was an alleged rape incident that invovled service members and a local national, and we were on a curfew from 2200 to 0500. I’m almost 40 years old now, and it did not affect me at all. However, the young Marines did not like it very much. We and my wife did three years in Iwakuni on the mainland of Japan, and we enjoyed it very much. We absolutely hate Okinawa. Most of that hate is due to the terrible traffic here. The Japanese are very poor drivers, and if you add congestion, they get even worse. Can’t wait to get back home to good ole South Carolina. My Dad tells me traffic is getting pretty horendous in Mt. Pleasant. I’m glad my house is way out in the country in Williamsburg county, but the boat will stay at my Dad’s 8 miles away from the Wando so I don’t have to drag that sucker 30 miles everytime I go fishing.

That sucks. Unfortunately we were probely some of the drunken Jarheads that screwed it up back in the day. I was turning wrenches at the motor pool at the top of the hill 93-94.Lots of good memories! Yeah the traffic here in Mt. Plastic is bad, but it’s bad everywhere in Charleston. Welcome to the site, plenty of old Tankers, Grunts, and Airwingers on here.

That’s cool. I hope to meet some of the guys when I get back next year. I’m working my butt off for the one CBRN Defense Officer spot at MAG-31 in Beaufort. So far, it looks pretty good. I will know for sure if I get the spot in December. At my next duty station, my oldest daughter will graduate college, and my youngest daughter will grauate High School. So, I want to be close to home for those significant events. I’m itching pretty bad to fell a tug on the end of my line again too. I think my last year here is going to be the longest as the seconds turn into minutes and the minutes tuern into hours.

Welcome!

I was in Iwakuni from summer of 99-00 and Beaufort from 00-03. It sounds like Okinawa is still the nightmare it has always been. Beaufort is a perfect place to be stationed for inshore fishing.

Good luck!

Sketter is the Pink diamon still out in town? Spent many mornings getting my butt dragged home from there. I was at Schwab in 1982 with 3rd Tracks, 2000 and 2003 with CAB. Are the guys still running the fishing boat out of the marina? Caught many fish with Rick my last tour.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Sweet rig, and welcome to the site, Skeeter! Thank you sincerely for your service to our country!

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Not sure about a Pink Diamond. I don’t go to those kinds of places these days anymore, but CAB is still there on the hill when you come through the gate. Most of Camp Schwab is eventually supposed to move to Guam, and the Air Station, MCAS Futenma, will be moving to Camp Schwab. Along with giving some land back to the Japanese, I think they want the roudy grunts as far away from any ability to cause international incidents as possible (ha,ha). I appreciate the comments fellas.

Opps, you would be the one to ask about a pink diamond and the words “butt dragged” in the same sentence; wouldn’t you? Well keep your phone near you in case I need rescuing tomorrow since I’m a dumbass and will be out in 20+ gusts.

Skeeter, safe trip back, bud. I’ll tell all the flounder you’re on the way back so they get the hell out of the wando and jump into the stono (where they’ll laugh at everything I throw at them)

Oh boy…I can see right now that I have joined this forum and there is no lack of jokers and kidders. This is gonna be fun. Ha,ha.

How you gona get the boat home from japan!

The boat is at Marshall’s Marine in Lake City. My Dad is going to pick it up and keep it at his house until I get home next year. We are putting up a 22 X 31 X 10 carport especially for the boat. Dad will take it out once a month on the river, and he will run it once a month in the yard with the water hose to keep everything from just sitting. He is taking care of my truck too. So, he will pull the boat with my truck so it get a workout a little bit too. I’m not worried about him putting many miles on either of them. He is cheap and don’t want to put gas in either of them (ha,ha).

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

Sublimeone,

I got a really good deal on the boat for two reasons: (1) it is a 2012 model, and (2) it was a dealer demo boat. So, it has 20 hours on the motor, and the dealership is doing the 20 hour maintenance on the motor before it leaves. The dealer said once it was broken in, she ran 62mph with one person on it. Yeap…I think that is moving on a little bit. According to the performance report, the 250hp gets a little over 4 mpg at 33 mph, and the 150hp on the 20 foot boat gets just a hair better at 36 mph. So, I would rather have the horses and not need them, than need them and not have them. You guys will probably see my Dad out there in the boat fishing the Wando before you see me in it. He will take the boat out at least once a month to run it on the water, and run it undert the shed with the water hose once a month. No…I’m not worried about him wearing it out. He is cheap and don’t want to put much gas in the 60 gallon tank (ha,ha).

Sellsfish,

Semper Fi back to ya brother.
