Helm Pad

Thinking about putting a helm pad made by SeaDek on my Pathfinder. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this product or others like it??? Wanted to get some input before I spend around $150…

Son has it in his flats boat. The jury is still out. It is nice on the feet during a long day on the water but even the light grey gets hot from the sun. I will put it on my poling platform and casting platform.

I bought one a few years ago for my 18’ Sea Hunt. I think it helps with the back and feet, gives good traction and cleans easily. I have the blue color, I have no complaints about it getting hot (normally water is available nearby), it fits nicely between my console and the seat. I don’t know how year round sun exposure would affect it, my boat is garaged.

hydroturf is another type of padding to checkout, they sell overstock on their website for discounted prices, could probably do the helm for like $50-$80, it is trim to fit, not a custom pathfinder specific pad though, it’s a foam type padding, you can buy it with or without adhesive on the back, install with contact adhesive if you opt for the no-adhesive one, personally i like the one w/ the glue already on it… it comes in tons of colors & grip patterns, i think the straight lines clean easier than the squares or diamonds. hydroturf is really popular on duck boats since it comes in camo, but it also helps quiet things down on an aluminum hull for fishing. also popular with jet ski racers. seadek is good stuff too, just not as many options on color & grip pattern

Sure do appreciate all the ■■■■■■■■. Was wondering if anyone had any problems with the adhesive. With all the fish slime and other crap that gets in the boat, just thought all that may get under the helm pad and possibly cause it to come unglued…thanks for the link to hydroturf, I’ll definitely check it out…

I had 1for 6 yrs, adhesive was no problem,a foot cush actually gives more cushion than the seadek helm pad,but the seadek looks nice,i used the foot cush over the helm pad when fishing…

I have since taken the helm pad up and do not plan on replacing it,i found a commercial mat company on line and order a padded mat from the them,i only have it out for fishing trips…

Thanks gutwrench, you don’t by chance remember the commercial mat company name??

I’ve got one on my boat and it does help and I like it. It has been on there for 8 years and it’s just now starting to come apart at the seams. Needs to be replaced.

Life Is Good…Gotta Love It!!!

I have an “old” new life comfort mat for the kitchen floor that I trimmed to fit in the helm floor. Works great!
