Went fishing yesterday and the motor ran great all morning. Ran it up as high as 4500 rpms about 45 mph. On the way in it ran great up to around 3800 rpms. If I pushed it harder it seemed like it would bog down and start loosing speed and the rpms would drop. If I backed it down it would immediately pick back up. Anything over 3800 and I would lose power. Any ideas? Maybe an injector going out? All filters were replaced along with the mid pressure fuel pump in the vst in September.
Thanks Chris that’s what I was thinking. Do you think it’s the filter inside the vst? Seems to always be the culprit. Is this a common occurrence with the 175? I have a buddy with the same year 150 and he never seems to have these issues and he has 1000 plus hours. Is their anything I can do to somewhat prevent this? I really don’t want to have to tear the vst apart every 3-4 months to clean a filter.
I would guess the high pressure filter. that’s the one we see causing the most issues
I have a 200 hpdi and had a similar problem last year, couldn’t figure it out either. Brought it to SEELS, they went thru it and couldn’t find any of the usual things wrong. Had to pay them to take it to the river to test drive and see if they could replicate the prob. Finally narrowed down to a fouled plug. Very expensive find!!!

Many filters on an HPDI motor.
Port Side Filter, VST Screen (Inside VST), Canister (Medium Pressure) filter between VST and High-Pressure pump, HP Pump basket filters (2), Injector basket filters (6).
Also, you should have a Water Separator Filter between the fuel tank and motor.
Chris V was referring to the Canister filter above the VST, and I agree that is most likely your problem.
My suggestion is to change them all!!
Take it to Chris V and get the full fuel system service. Mine was doing the same thing and at 10 years old needed the whole shebang. Lot’s of filters, sensors, etc on those motors and they are sensitive. I love mine, just got to do the maintenance.
