I’ve got the bow u-bolt where I attach the trailer strap, but there was an eyebolt that was above it where a security chain was probably attached at some point.
I assume it came unscrewed.
So – I’ve got this hole in the keel that’s above where the strap attaches. I assume the hole is about 13/16ths or maybe even 1". It’s freakin’ huge!!!
I checked West Marine.com and couldn’t find anything. I looked at Lowes today and they don’t have anything nearly large enough.
Can any of y’all help:question:

Sounds like it was an extra eye, maybe to fit propperly on another trailer and removed ,can you get to it from the inside, possibly had a spotlight mounted there ,people do crazy things.I personnaly would just fill it with white marine tex and call it a day assuming your boat is fiberglass,if its metal see a welder and let him patch it,just my thoughts.

On the Wellcraft? There was never 2 bolts on the bow. The only other hole is the anchor drain.
Yeah…so, there was never anything else attached? Odd… The hole has threads inside. I thought there used to be a 2nd eye-bolt to secure it to the trailer? Hmm…
Just for the helluva it, I’ll take a picture tomorrow. There are what seems to be old threads on the inside. And, there as a bead of caulk near the outer edge.
Weird.

Sounds like there was an eye there from your description, but you don’t need it anyway, so you might as well fill it in, unless you want to replace it. Marine Tex will do just fine (or any epoxy-based product). Might need some cabosil or fiber filler, though. Easy patch. If you want to replace the bolt, and you can’t find the right one anywhere, then call Charleston Nut and Bolt, and see if they have it.

Sounds like the boat was set up for a different trailer, then had to move the eye to fit a new trailer. Does the hole rub the roller when loading and unloading? If it does, that might be why they removed it instead of just adding 2nd bow eye. If it doesn’t rub, you could put another eye on and use it to attach a safety line. Could leave it attached and not have to worry about it getting in the way of your strap and safety chain.
Otherwise, Marine-Tex. Excellent stuff.

In that case, make sure that it’s not the drain for the anchor.
You don’t want to plug the drain hole.
I don’t think you’re going to be able to find Marine-Tex in the color you want.
You can find paint that matches and paint over it though.

Matt, I guess you’re right. I’d never noticed it before. Oh well. Now time to find something to fix it with. I wonder if Wellcraft might be able to help out… Guess I’ll be calling them.
Thank ya!
