Hey, I just fished the area near Isle of Palms, Capers Inlet, Bulls Bay, etc for the first time last week. Had some moderate success with trout, a couple reds and a bunch of sharks. I mainly used DOA shrimp and cut mullet or dead shrimp because I couldn’t find bait.
Any help or techniques on finding bait fish? I assume cast netting? Where and how? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!
Sounds dumb but have you ever seen the drainage ditches off of Daniel island and Drum island ? sometimes bait congregates underneath the bubbles to feed on the algae coming off the pipes. Throw a cast net there
Bait is all over the place this time of year. Try locating it in creeks and shallower areas unless you are looking for menhaden. Low tide is much easier to locate bait - you were probably trying to find bait at high tide which can be challenging at times.
If you go in any creek at low tide you will likely see bait all over the place . . . just make sure you don’t throw your cast net on an oyster bed, which still happens from time to time.
