I am pretty new to saltwater fly fishing and would really like to know when would be the best tide stages to target Spanish nearshore around HHI. I fished with a guide several years ago before I had a boat and we went out off the southern tip and found some spanish busting glass minnows. It was a lot of fun. I went out off the south end Saturday morning and looked for birds with no luck. Any tips? Thanks.

I’m far from an expert on the topic but have had several great days of fishing for Spanish on the north end of HHI - in the Broad River rips on an incoming tide. They crushed small (size 6) chartreuse/white clousers. The water has to be clean and when it is, the fish have always been there. Also, there’s a bouy only a short distance from the mouth of the Broad. I’ve done well on spanish, blues, and lady fish just blind casting a Deceiver around the marker. Not a lot to go on but it’s a start.
