I’m looking at a 1989 Yamaha 30hp CV30EL motor. It currently is set up remote but I need it tiller steer. I have been all over boats.net and a few other sites and I cant find anything for converting it to tiller steer. There is a kit, part # 6J8-W0084-00-EK for every other model the 1987-1994 30hp motors but not the CV model.
Does anyone know the difference between the CV and the other models? Is it adaptable?
I’m looking at this particular motor for the weight(125lbs), size(30hp 2cyl) and price.
It will fit my needs perfect if it was a tiller.

on those earlier yamahas the carbs are different than what were used in later models. I’m not sure and maybe someone with more knowledge can clarify but, the carbs can only be opened in one direction (push open vs. pull open) therefore, not convertible to tiller. I know this sounds vague but that’s what I remember in my research from some time ago.

Yea some of the features are not included on all models. For instance my Yammy has the bolt holes for a starter to be installed yet I cannot utilize this because the d@mn flywheel doesn’t even have teeth!
