First of all this is not a joke. I gave all my guns to my son 25 years ago when I moved to SC because I was working and gone five or six days a week. I went to my fathers 90th birthday party where he gave me a Remington pump 22 I used as a teen and a Mossberg 500 12 gauge he doesn’t use. I’m retired now, living at Harrys Fish Camp, and would appreciate any advice where to go to hunt small game and maybe later turkeys. I’ve spent hours on the SCDNR site and the more I read it the more confusing it gets.
Jan 2- March 1 is open for small game at Bonneau Ferry WMA and North Dike WMA. Both of those are fairly close to Harrys fish camp. That is according to SCDNR site listed in the link below.
Thank you for your help plus for the private messages I have gotten. They give me someplace to start. I’m almost 66, have an artificial heart valve and both legs full of metal from being badly broken so I don’t walk too good and can’t do have what many would suggest, take the time to scout out a lot of areas. I just want to enjoy a little time in the woods while I still can. Thanks again.
Most guys are lucky enough to have made a lot of friends. I was a professional AKC dog handler for almost 25 years and I was on the road usually 250-275 days a year and the days home were spent getting ready for the next trip so I didn’t get to have any nearby friends. I have one great guy on Lake Murray, Spoonmaster, who I consider a friend but the distance makes it difficult
Fishing report and suggestion sent.
Md if you are old at 65, then I should be pushing up daisies. I am 75.
Slowing down a bit. Getting harder to climb tree stands and drag deer out.
I probably have 5 years before they have to wheel me to my stand.
hope your friend hooks up with you.

I guess the term “old guy” depends on how you look at it. My mind is young but two broken femurs, seven operations on my legs, and open heart surgery for a heart valve replacement, all in the past five years, has slowed me down but that’s all.
All our health issues just make us grateful for what we have that still works!! That and of course our good looks. If we’d known we were going to live this long we’d have taken better care of ourselves!
Seriously, you don’t look like a 65 year old. I’d have guessed you were much younger. I sent you a PM.
Md I had quad bypass 27 yrs ago.My knees are the only thing that keep reminding me how old I am.
Still work full time.
But I am blessed. Was in my stand this morning. Nothing but fog. still better than being anywhere else.

It seems like I might have offended some folks a bit and for that I apologize. I don’t want anyone to think I’m looking for sympathy or asking for shortcuts. I was just hoping for a little direction to start. It’s kinda like when I moved from Fla to SC years ago. The fishing is very different but I went out and learned small areas at a time and listened to anyone offering advice. I’m no fishing expert but I’ve learned enough to help some people along the way, just never was home long enough to make any close friends. Again, sorry if I offended anyone.
I can’t see how what you said could offend anyone

No offense here . At 70 the only real problem is my mind writes checks that the body can’t or has a hard time cashing…
boy do I know that feeling:smiley:
