Help for the Newbie Please

Ok fellas, after much inner debate i have come to the conclusion that as of now i’m not quite to the point in my financial standings to drop down 18 grand for a flats boat, much less 10 grand for a bay boat. The thought of a Jon boat doesn’t appeal to me either. However, i am also tired of being confined to the beaches with little hope of catching anything besides sharpnose. I have bought several inshore fishing trips in the past and it pains me not to have access to tailing reds, or mackeral on a feeding frenzy, or shrimp under a cork drifting up into a creek tight against the grass. So, i am thinking that maybe the kayak is the way to go, however i really need some help in deciding which to get. Like i said my main interest is reds, flounder, trout, macks…you know, the usual inshore thing. Would anybody be willing to allow me to look and maybe try their set-up on the water? I’m sure i want one, i just would like to be able to shop with the confidence of knowing i atleast know how to use one of these. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Bought my Tarpon, which I think is the best thing since sliced bread, from this place. They carry Ocean Pacific, Wilderness Systems, and some other brands. They have a small pond across the street where you can try out the kayaks. Ask for Marvin.

I agree, the guys at “time out” are really helpful and are more than happy to let you demo the boats.Do you have much paddling experience? I’m not trying to deter you from anything, just wanted to know so I could make some recommendations.

If you are trying to decide on a yak, try out a few. Sea kayaks are much more effecient when you are paddling in wind or current. The can be slightly more trouble to fish out of, but I fish out of the frequently. Just mount some flush mount rod holders(be sure to not place them where they will interfer with your legs or paddleing) and have a blast. I work with the guys from Lowcountry Kayak and rent out many variations of kayaks, so give us a call.

Before you by also check out the used kayaks at Half Moon in Mt. Pleasant.

Sorry Everclearseas, I knew that I had spoken to someone who dealt with kayaks from a rental/sales reference, but I couldn’t remember who it was. Old timer’s disease.
