Help- got skunked in the Wando

Alright guys I need some help. I have fished all my life in the Lowcountry- mostly folly and Kiawah. I havent fished in about 5 years or so because work has really kept me busy. I’ve moved over to Daniel Island and have a landing a few blocks from the house and just purchased a little 16ft skiff. So I really want to learn my area of the Wando and Cooper River. I have been out about 6-7 times and tried areas that I thought would hold fish. I must have forgotten how to fish; because except for the spare fish here and there ( I think Im catching only the suicidal fish)I cant catch ship. I’ve been reading all the threads here on what they are biting on and try the same several days later with no results. I think I have a bigger issue of knowing what kind of location to fish rather than bait, technique, or artificial. I generally only have the mornings to fish so I dont have the luxury to fish the correct tide. I’m taking my mentor from work fishing tomorrow and would live for him to catch a few.
Today I fished from 8am - 1 pm. Tide was low with 2 hours of fishing on either side. I fished about 5 locations that looked good to me. Point with oysters and water moving by it, area of marshgrass right up to the water line on a deep channel, and a few docks that looked like they had been there for a while. I had MM and chinabacks and a assortment of the artificials that others on here seem to be killing them on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you are on the right track. All of the areas you’ve mentioned are where fish are found. I have been fishing that are since I was about 16 (now I’m 40) and there are plenty of fish there. Two words for you, KEEP MOVING! If your not catching, move. When you catch something slow down and explore that area a little more. Cover lots of water until you figure out a pattern.

If you want a guide for that area give Greg Peralta a call.

Did you try wiggling your worm??? lol

I would try the Stono, or maybe the Edisto or possibly Charleston Harbor. Whatever you do, don’t fish the Wando because, as you know, there’s no fish there.

id rather fish edisto then wando anyday and thats not a joke

Great advice above. I always had alot of luck fishing mud minnows on a 1/4 oz. plain jighead. Helped me find fish as I was learning. Once I found them and saw what they liked at low tide, it made a little more sense.

I’ve since lost most of them.
